2012 In Review

In January I came up with some goals for 2012.

Let’s see how I met, or didn’t meet, the top 3 goals I had for our home in 2012:

  1. Have carpet installed upstairs.  So that clearly didn’t happen!  But thank God it didn’t…I love our laminate flooring
  2. Complete a Kitchen renovation Check!
  •      Paint Cabinets yep!
  •      Upgrade from ugly 1987 junky appliances to stainless steel. yep!
  •      New countertops yep!
  •      Out with the florescent lighting and in with recessed and pendant lighting yep!
  •      Place horizontal paneling on the walls in our breakfast area. yep!
  •      Obtain a casual dining set yep! But not only did I get a new casual set, it’s replacing our formal set so that the dining room will become Alex’s office leaving us with room for a guest bedroom AND a nursery (for someday) upstairs.

3.  Obtain new/used furniture for the master bedroom and make the room cozy and romantic. Partial-check!  We have the bed and side tables for the master bedroom.  The rug is in the mail (thanks to my work bonus and 75% off Christmas sale!).  We still need two dressers to go on either side of the closet doors and  a lot of accessorizing before it’s cozy and romantic. tufted bed

I suppose it’s almost time to create some 2013 goals!  I’m definitely not short on ideas :-)

We found the perfect flooring for our taste and budget!  Alex and I went to Floor & Decor Outlet in Atlanta Sunday and pretty quickly settled on the right floor.

This picture really doesn’t do it justice.  It is so pretty and has a nice hand scraped texture to it.  WOOOHOOOO!!!!

We’re just waiting for it to be shipped, and hopefully in 7-10 days we’ll have the boxes and be ready to spend A LOT of time on our hands and knees!

Carpet–how boring.

I can’t believe I’m going to look at carpet today.  I’ve always thought of having hardwoods throughout my new home, and while that will be the case on the first floor, I’ve had a change of heart about the upstairs.

There’s something comforting to me about a soft carpeted floor to step on to when I first wake up. I’m loving the look of the carpet in the bedroom above that I found on Houzz.  Right now I’m waking up and stepping on to plywood floors covered with cardboard boxes to prevent splinters. I’m over it.

Perhaps it’s because the house I grew up in had carpet in the bedroom, or maybe it’s just what I like, but I’ve decided to forgo hardwoods in the bedrooms and do carpet in stead…for now.  Looking ahead to the future, I think I like that a nursery and child’s room anyways.

I may regret the decision later on, but it’s what we want to do for now.

So, how fun is it talking about carpet, eh?  ERRRRR–lame.  Oh well.  I guess not all of my home updates will be as exciting as an HGTV living room or a massive kitchen transformation (I can’t WAIT to do my kitchen!).

I’m off to measure my rooms upstairs before heading to browse some carpets.  I’m leaning towards a nice, soft berber.  I’ll let you know when I get back!
