So here’s the deal–I made a little change to the living room. Yes, the beautiful living room that we had designed and put together for us one year ago for an HGTV Pilot. You might be asking: Why in the world would you change anything in that gorgeous, FINISHED, room when there are plenty of other untouched rooms that need work??? Well, that’s a very good question! Truth be told, my personal style has evolved a lot over the last year, and although I absolutely LOVED the way the room was, I wasn’t feeling that it was as “me” as it could be.
Apparently I have a little affinity for the dramatic things in life. (Side story: when I was a kid my brother got me a sweatshirt for Christmas that had the Dairy Queen logo on it, but it said ‘Drama Queen’. I was so offended by it and shocked he would even consider me to be dramatic. All while being very dramatic about the shirt, I’m sure.) This love for the dramatic has come out in my design taste and I knew I wanted to take the chance and go for a bold paint change in the room. My friend recommended that I can hire a professional painter and decorator from the Dublin deco painting you can check here, so they help me achieve the living room I want.
BLACK!
Here are some of the pictures that gave me inspiration:

And without further adieu:
So there she is. My new, dramatic living room. And I love her very, very much!! I also plan on painting the red doors and red table a cooler color in the future. I’m not sure if Kevin or Layla read my posts occasionally…but if ya’ll do–don’t hate me! 🙂 I was really so hesitant to write this post, but when I thought about it I was only hesitant because I thought people might not like it. I get it; it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But it is mine and I LOVE this room!
On a whole other note: KITCHEN RENOVATION STARTS MONDAY! It should be finished in 3-4 weeks, then I’ll have a lot of accessorizing to do. The planks on the walls are up (although base and crown molding aren’t yet) so here’s a sneak peak:

I think it looks great! And I actually like the red a lot with the black 🙂
I definitely don’t dislike the red/black…we’ll see if it stays:) thanks!
I love it, I painted a wall in my son’s room black and was blown away by the effect. I think it looks fab – ENJOY!
Thank you! It really does make such a statement. It doesn’t feel dark in the room at all either, which was a bit of a worry.
Great room! Where did you get your coffee table?
Layla has all the sources at the bottom of this post: http://theletteredcottage.net/hgtv-room/
The table was custom made.
What a change! The room Layla did was more my style. But I am glad you did what YOU love! I saw your kitchen on YHL months ago and found your blog today through Layla’s blog and it all finally made sense 🙂
I love, love, love all the red accents! I need to figure out asap what I can paint red! 🙂
Love. What is the brand and color black you used?
